The perimeter of a rectangular photo is 72 cm. The length is twice the width. What are the length and width of the photo?

having trouble with this question. I need to write an equation for this word problem and also find an answer.

P = 2L + 2W
A = LW

Perimeter is given so we will use

The perimeter of a rectangle = 2*length + 2*width

Let suppose the width = x

Length = twice the width = 2x

the Perimeter = 72 = 2*2x + 2*x

                            72 = 4x + 2x

Now we have 72 = 6x, then dividing both sides by 6we get x = 12

Width = 12 cm

Length is 12 x 2 = 24 cm

The perimeter of a rectangle is 2*length + 2*width

If we call the width x, then we can write 'The length is twice the width' as length=2x

So the perimeter = 72 = 2*2x +2*x

Collecting terms we have 72 = 6x, then dividing both sides by 6 we get x = 12

So the width is 12cm and the length is 24cm

Hope that helps!

=given,the perimeter of a rectangle=64cm

=now,the formula of a perimeter of rectangle is=2(l+w)

=the length is twise the width so, l=2w

=now we will put the given values in the formula,2(2w+w)=64cm

   -> 4w+2w=64

so length of a rectangle is,l=2(32/3)

                                       =64/3 cm
