3x-5=3+2x => 3x-2x=3+5 => x=8.

I used the substitution property of equality:  for any quantities a and b and any expression F(z), if a = b, then F(a) = F(b).

In our example the first step would be a=3x-5, b=3+2x, F(z)=z-2x => (3x-5)-2x = (3+2x) -2x => 3x-2x-5=3.

There are other properties of equality. You can check them in the reference.

3x-5=3+2x

to find the value of x, put all like terms on one side

3x - 2x = 3 + 5

x = 8.

so the value of x= 8.
