It is given that 1000 boy scouts bought food good for 30 days.

Let the food for 1000 boys for 30 days be X.

So food for 1000 boys for 1 day will be X/30.

So food for 1 boy for 1 day will be X/30*1000=X/30000.

On the 10th day another 250boys arrived.

Food consumed by 1000 boys for 9 days =9*X/30=3X/10.

Remaining food on 10th day = X-3X/10 = (10X-3X)/10 = 7X/10

Food required for 1250 boys for 1 day = 1250X/30000= 125X/3000 = 5X/120=X/24

Let the food will last for Y days.

Y=remaining food on 10th day/ Food required for 1250 boys for 1 day

 =(7X/10)/(X/24)

 =7X*24/10*X

 =7*24/10

 =168/10

 = 16.8

So the food will last for 16 days.
