Let rene age=x years.

3 years ago, Rene's age=x-3 years and Adrienne's age=2x-3

So, x-3+2x-3=48

3x-6=48

3x=54

x=18

Rene's age=18 years and Adrienne's age=36 years

Rene=x years,

3 years ago the sum of their age is 48

so...

(x-3)+(2x-3)=48

x+2x-3-3=48

3x-6=48

3x=48+6

3x=54

x=18

Rene=x=18
